Cookie Policy

Last updated: April 17, 2026

A E T L I E R (Pty) Ltd ("we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on aetlier.shop. This policy explains what we use them for, the legal basis we rely on, and how you can change your choices at any time.

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser when you visit a website. Similar technologies include localStorage, sessionStorage and pixel beacons. In this policy, "cookies" refers to all of them.

2. Cookie categories

We group cookies into four categories. You can toggle the last three on or off at any time from the cookie settings page or from the banner the first time you visit.

  • Essential— required for authentication, the shopping cart, checkout, security and load-balancing. The site won't work without these, so they are always on. Lawful basis: legitimate interest (POPIA §11(1)(d); GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) and contractual necessity.
  • Functional — remember preferences such as your theme, region, and recently viewed items. Lawful basis: consent.
  • Analytics — pseudonymous measurements (page views, conversion funnels, device breakdown) that help us understand how the site is used. Lawful basis: consent.
  • Personalization— remember your taste signals (views, likes, follows, style-quiz answers) so we can rank designers and pieces you're more likely to love. Lawful basis: consent.

3. Known categories

CookieCategoryPurpose / retention
sb-*EssentialSupabase auth session. Session only.
aetlier_sessionEssentialDevice-scoped session for security (e.g. sign-out other devices). 1 year.
aetlier_consentEssentialYour cookie consent decision. 180 days.
aetlier_visitorPersonalizationRolling anonymous ID used only to compute your taste profile. Set only after consent. 1 year.

We may load additional essential cookies from payment providers (Yoco) during checkout. Those cookies are controlled by the third-party and governed by their own privacy notices.

4. Existing analytics

A small amount of non-identifying page-view data is currently collected without explicit consent for aggregate traffic reporting. We are in the process of migrating this to the consent-gated "Analytics" category above. Going forward, turning off the Analytics toggle prevents additional analytics cookies from being set.

5. Withdrawing your consent

You can withdraw or change your consent at any time from the cookie settings page, or by clearing cookies in your browser. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

6. Third parties

We use the following third-party processors who may set cookies on our behalf:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, storage.
  • Yoco — payment processing during checkout.
  • Vercel — hosting and CDN.

7. Your rights (POPIA / GDPR)

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you may object to processing. See the privacy policy for the full list of rights and how to exercise them.
